Internship for HeatSpring Learning Institute
"I would like to discuss my internship with HeatSpring Learning and what I hoped to gain from it. My degree will be in Adult and Continuing Education. My coursework has been interesting and now I can apply what I learned about designing course documents. I was grateful to be offered the internship at HeatSpring Learning. HeatSpring Learning is an Institution of higher learning with online campuses that are accessible throughout the United States.
Although my time spent on this internship would be considered short, 38 hours, I would have to say that in such a short time I was able to work with a very talented individual by the name of Duncan Miller. The internship began on 9/18/2013 and ended on 12/6/2013. During this period of time I was able to see “Behind the Scenes” so to speak on how an institution of higher learning puts forth the curriculum that eventually makes it way to the students in an online format.
During the entire internship, I became aware of how important the designs of course documents were in the education process. Interviewing Duncan on what the design of a course document used in an online format actually looked like I was surprised to find areas of logical influence.
I would have to say the one of the most important things that I learned during this internship was how these designers were able to take course documents for their particular discipline and manipulate it and make it their own.
In closing I would like to thank Duncan Miller for the opportunity to work within his organization. I also strongly feel that other institutions of higher learning (in-class/online) could learn quite a bit from this organization. I found the class formats to be engaging and simple to navigate. The strong point of this type of organization would be the instructors. Duncan has brought together individuals that are industry leaders in their own right and the student base is made up of professionals within the fields of a particular course, well done Duncan.”
